Slipped Disc TreatmentSome of the symptoms of slipped discs are not always apparent while some are clearly visible such as incontrollable bladder habit and severe numbness in spinal section. Cases wherein symptoms are more than obvious should be brought to experts’ attention at once. MRI scan and CT scan are said to be the finer and more accurate approaches to detecting slipped discs over X-ray vision. After clear and exact diagnosis, deciding on the proper treatment for slipped discs is next. For most cases of slipped discs, it is only when all non-surgical approaches failed that the doctor resorts to having surgical means of treating slipped discs. Having the serious threat to paralysis of the patient is one of the triggers for having surgical treatment to slipped discs. Having recurring and chronic cases of slipped discs is another. Slipped disc case is considered acute when it lasts for several weeks to months. Cases exceeding three months are considered chronic. Whenever surgical means is needed, automatically, general anesthesia will be given to the patient. Primary treatments to slipped discs are anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers going along with flat bed rest. When any betterment in the situation is not observed is the only time the patient is asked to stay in the hospital wherein strict static rest will be imposed to treat slipped discs. This may even involve having traction for the patient. Application of traction is one of the conservative ways of treating slipped disc and is said to have cured 90% of the non-surgical cases. Treating slipped discs with non-surgical means involves deep precaution such as not lifting anything considerably heavy. For quick relief, either ibuprofen or paracetamol can serve the purpose. Take note, however, that there are illnesses in which any or both of these primary treatments can be incompatible with. This should be made known to the patient so as not to promote more problems in trying to treat slipped discs. Physical exercise is one of the feudal treatments to slipped discs. This, however, should be done in the most frugal approach. Let the physical therapist or physician decide on when the patient can have it and to what extent. Improper delivery can worsen the case. Some patients resort to psychotherapy in treating slipped discs. Massage is one of the first treatments for slipped discs. Just like physical exercise, however, this should be done by massage therapists who are knowledgeable on which area in the spine should be touched and how. Yoga, on the other hand, is not commonly done although some yoga practitioners consider yoga as non-conventional way of treating slipped discs since it promotes movement unlike other approaches that promote immobility (bed rest) in treating slipped discs. Smoking is strictly prohibited when and after undergoing treatments for slipped discs.
