Sciatica Treatments

Sciatica treatment can be different from one patient to the other because of their particular needs and the severity of their sciatica.

Sciatica home treatment can be done by using cold and hot packs with physical activity (recommended by the physical therapist), aromatherapy (Evening Primrose Oil massage, thrice a day) and by doing simple stretching exercises. Aside from the sciatica home treatment, there are various ways to treat sciatica; the treatment for sciatica can be the simple type (such as massage, herbal medications, simple back exercises) or the extensive type like injections and surgery.
Treating sciatica can be self-care within a doctor’s care; the patient must cooperate well. The patient must treat sciatica as a condition limiting his movements thus he needs to be cautious with his movements. Though it is a limiting condition, lengthened bed rest is not suggested as one of the sciatica treatments. Also under the self-care program, the patient must also see to it that the medication (whether herbal or the processed drugs) should be taken religiously (with or without doctors supervision).
Massage is a suggested way of sciatica home treatment, particularly if the sciatic pain is from muscle spasm.  Treatments like chiropractic or osteopathy is offered to ease pressure on the sciatic nerve and the pain that goes with it. The two other methods, namely acupuncture and biofeedback may also be helpful in controlling and decreasing the pain.
Massage treatment can ease muscle tension; trigger points; release abnormal tissue adhesions; and develop correct posture to ease the pressure on nerve root endings. Sciatica massage treatment can also be employed in treating sciatica.  Acupuncture treatments can also help in sciatic nerve treatment. The back up to the ankle has specific acupoints that need to be pressed to release the pressure. Upon doing it, an intense pain can be felt within the body that stays for about two to three days but afterwards, it completely fades away. Also, acupuncture treatments can help in proper blood circulation that is also necessary for the proper blood circulation in the sciatic nerve. This is the biggest nerve in the body.
Recently, the field of science and medicine team up their work for various sciatica treatments. This sciatica treatment focused in dealing with the severe pain felt by the patients. The treatment showed a high effectiveness rate when compared to the usual treatments but the scientific evidence is insufficient thus it is still not used with patients.
Also, no sciatic treatment can declare itself to be the best treatment for sciatica because modifications are done for a particular treatment to fit the status of the patient. How to treat sciatica is still an inquiry to be resolved since many factors are arising nowadays that should be given notice plus the fact that even a simple muscle strain or spasm can result to sciatica.
