Low Back Pain Causes

A number of causes can be used to explain low back pain or discomfort. Prolonged inactivity, poor posture, and excessive weight are some of the most common causes of back problems.

Muscle spasm or stiffness in your lower back is attributed to aggravated pressure on the limbic region of your spinal column. This region support the whole weight of your body, and taking away the pressure relieves you of pain in your lower back and at the same time facilitate in the recovery of your lower back.

Other ways to relieve your painful lower back from muscle spasm is to use ice packs and massage. Massage helps relax the lower back muscle and increases blood flow in your muscle; thereby, enabling your body to heal faster. Non-prescription medicine that also reduce swelling and pain such aspirin, or ibuprofen can also be taken to help relieve soreness and pain in the lower back.

Proper posture also helps in relieving pain in your lower back. Proper posture reduces pressure on your lower back; thus, it also prevents lower back problems.

  1. Sitting down. The best way to sit down is to sit in chairs with straight backs or low-back support. Keep your knees a bit higher than your hips. You can use to stool to prop your feet on. Keep in mind to turn with your whole body rather than twisting at your waist. This helps reduce injury in your lower back.
  2. Standing up. If you are standing on long periods, rest one foot in a low stool to relieve pressure on your lower back. Every 5 to 15 minutes, switch foot. Always maintain good posture when standing.
  3. Sleeping. The best way to sleep on the side your knees bent. If you sleep on your back, place pillows on your knees and your head. This helps take away pressure on your lower back when you are resting. Moreover, use a firm mattress to support your whole back.

 

Generally, you must maintain a regular exercise regimen to avoid further injury or re-injury of your lower back. This not only provides relief but maintains the muscle tone in your lower back and condition of your body. Swimming is a good exercise that will help you tone and improve the flexibility of your muscles. As rule of thumb, the best way to avoid any disorder is to maintain a healthy lifestyle – that is, exercise, proper diet and good posture.
