Back Pain and Nerve

Most people have a vague idea on how nerves and back pain are related. We aim to demonstrate the correlation among nerves and back pain.

The nerve traveling between the back vertebrae may be squeezed together. If a nerve is squeezed together, it can cause symptoms of numbness, stinging, burning and achy soreness along the path traveled by the nerve.  There are many possibilities of how nerve compression can occur.  A pinched nerve is a nerve that exits the spine through a herniated disc or by bone spurs that results to form spinal arthritis. Not considering the portion where the nerve is pinched, the owner of that nerve will experience similar symptoms of numbness felt in the hands because the brain is not capable of comprehending the dissimilarities between a start, middle or nerve ending. The brain is only aware that it is not acquiring signals, thus numbness ensues.

If a pinched nerve is present in the low back, pain is usually felt down the leg. The symptoms experienced by the person traverse into the leg following the pathway of the nerve resulting to the foundation of a pain which is referred. The muscle tightening in the back portion goes with pinched nerves doubling the pain felt by the patients. It is still recommended to seek medical opinion from a physician. The physician must assess your condition first in order to think of precise information on why your nerves are being pinched and propose a treatment for the specific situation of a patient.

A back pain pinched nerve can be treated with medicine, physical therapy/exercises, cortisone injection or surgery. The treatments intend to progress for the therapy of the nerve which can be done by either lessening swollen tissue around the nerve, gathering together the nerve via scar tissue that may develop around it from recurring inflammation, or by taking out the disc or bone spurs that presses upon it. The methods in treating a pinched nerve also means decreased compression of the vertebrae via traction and realignment therapeutic procedures and medicines. These processes help the muscles to loosen up thereby decreasing the pain and lessening the inflammation experienced by the patient. Simple measures such as choosing the correct mattress where you would be sleeping, right sleeping position, and inserting a cushion on a chair can lessen the pain felt by the patient.

The drugs that are injected to treat back pain pinched nerve consist of local anesthetics, steroids, and opioids. If the back pain is severe, it is necessary to damage the pinched nerve with phenol injections, ethanol which is pure, or by using needles that can freeze or heat the nerves. This treatment for the back pain nerve manages acute pain as it lessens the inflammation and signal triggering. Moreover, through this treatment, the source of pain can be easily identified.
