Back Pain Management

Back pain is considered one of the top reasons why many patients consult their physicians often. The incidence of back pain had an upsurge, from 7.6 to 37 percent wherein the maximum of the population affected is in the group ranging from 45 and 60 years of age. Though at present, back pain is also reported to be experienced by adults of all ages and even kids.

The back pain that a patient feels can be categorized into three kinds based on the duration of pain experienced by the patients. Acute back pain is pain that usually persists for not more than 6 weeks. Subacute back pains last from a six- to 12-week period. Finally, chronic back pain lasts for more than 12 weeks. The back pain felt by patients differ from one other because of factors such as age, workload, severity of back pain, and lifestyle. A patient’s back pain can either worsen or be relieved, depending on the back pain management that the patient uses. There are many back pain solutions offered at present to relieve the pain like medicines, massages and therapy but the back pain solution to be used, mainly depends on the patient’s condition.

Back pain management involves studying back pain, its preventive measures, remedy and its rehabilitation. It makes surgical operations easier because the areas that are considered necessary for rehabilitation, identification and the specific parts that are addressed surgically can be done within a reduced time.

Most patients need only symptomatic treatment for their back pain. Back pain management makes use of varied back pain alternatives and treatments. Patients suffering from back pain reported improvement within a week upon applying back pain management. Patients should be keen in watching out for worsening symptoms like sensory functions and increased pain. If the mentioned symptoms take place, the patient must have further evaluation and treatment right away with a weekly check-up. Patients can progressively return to their normal activities.  The patient should continue carrying out daily activities gradually. This results to a faster healing process over bed rest or back-mobilizing exercises.

Acupuncture (though not yet solidly verified) stimulates the brain and spinal cord for increased chemical production affecting pain. Back pain management exercises prove to be an effective back pain alternative.  Exercises such as yoga (improves lower back pain condition), tai chi (a gentle exercise that is good for posture and the spine) and pilates (necessary for correcting ones’ posture and helps to ease back pain) are helpful in strengthening back muscle and back pain management.  Patients benefit from these exercise programs, if these are started early plus the fact that these exercises cause slightest stress on the back. The objective of these exercise programs is to avoid debilitation related to inactivity and secondly, to enhance activity tolerance and help the patients to return to their highest level of functioning.

In addition, massage therapy is also a beneficial alternative in the back pain management. The massage helps the aching back muscle to improve its blood circulation, expand the range of movement and helps in back pain management as the massage therapy increases endorphin (chemical produced by the body for pain tolerance) production.
